*Track Good 4/Soft 5 and Rail out +3m from 800m to Winning Post, and True the Remainder:
*RACE 1 @ 2.00pm EMIRATES PARK 2YO MAIDEN PLATE (900m) – Set Weights; 2YO’s; Apprentices Can Claim:
The babies get us underway over the short course, and naturally it’s a tricky test with most on debut. One of them, Newcastle filly 6. ASKEBAR (Kris Lees/Andrew Gibbons; 55kg) trialled nicely at Wyong a month back, and has been given plenty of time. Bred to sprint by powerhouse Astern out of a mare by speedster Anabaa.
*MAIN DANGERS: Have to be a little forgiving of rival Newcastle filly 7. Island Lass who covered early ground and over-raced on debut. Far more experienced pilot aboard here in what looks a thinner race, although will still have to slot in from a wide barrier. Keep safe another Novacastrian first starter 2. Harlem Groove who looked sharp winning the second of two recent trials. Muswellbrook-trained 5. Super Hot was strong late on debut at big odds in a deeper race before doing it tough from a wide gate at Rosehill. Will find this more much more to his liking.
Likely Tempo: Strong
My Betting Attack: ASKEBAR to Win & TRI: 2,6,7/2,5,6,7/2,5,6,7
*RACE 2 @ 2.35pm HORSEPOWER MAIDEN HCP (1300m): Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
Doesn’t get any easier here over a longer trip, with half on debut. Exciting local 3YO first starter 8. STILL IN FASHION (Paul Messara/Aaron Bullock; 57.5kg) has to overcome a wide barrier, but he looks a very nice one in the making. Cruised home in a recent open trial at Muswellbrook, and stable renowned for producing high quality youngsters. By the late great Redoute’s Choice out of a Street Cry mare.
*MAIN DANGERS: Newcastle filly 14. Confessed has been close-up in two runs to start her career. Drawn out, but should appreciate the bigger track carrying half kilo less. Keep safe Randwick 3YO 5. Dom Tycoon who hit the line nicely second start at Canberra over this trip; while watch the betting on home track 4YO and ex-Victorian 2. Gilded Crown having his first run for top local trainer; and local mare 10. Stockist who has only trialled quietly, but draws well for a good strike-rate yard, and bred to get over further.
Likely Tempo: Solid
My Betting Attack: STILL IN FASHION to Win
*RACE 3 @ 3.10pm IMPENDING @ DARLEY CLASS 2 HCP (1300m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
Plenty of chances in this one headed by 5YO Gulgong gelding 2. COSTAS (Brett Thompson/Aaron Bullock; 60kg) resuming off a tidy trial, and normally comes to hand quickly in the prep. Will love it here, settling back off a solid tempo, with cover, and finishing hard.
*MAIN DANGERS: Progressive home track colt 7. Ranuncula is building a nice record in his first season. Didn’t miss a place getting home well in first prep before charging home to land his maiden first-up at home off an eight week break. Drops 3.5kg for this, although some query going from 1000m to this distance. Liked the way Wyong filly 8. Bedazzle put them to the sword fourth-up in a BM 58 at Taree after trailing the speed. Meeting some better ones here, but gets in well enough at the weights, and has good early tactical speed. Improving 3YO 3. Go Gadget can be hard to catch, and is drawn off the track, but still capable of rattling home late if they overdo it up front. Wyong 5YO 1. Shamamour can improve into his second-up run from the inside draw after a tame effort at Muswellbrook, although weighted to his absolute best under 61kg.
Likely Tempo: Solid to Good
My Betting Attack: COSTAS Each Way and Box Exacta: 2,7,8
*RACE 4 @ 3.50pm GODOLPHIN FLYING START OPEN HCP (1100m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
Good quality battle for the more seasoned sprinters. Very tough to tip against 5YO mare and track specialist 4. FRITZ’S FACTOR (Rod Northam/Reece Jones a1.5kg; 58.5kg) who has won her last two, and been giving a little freshen-up since sailing over the top for a dominant win at Warren in record time. Won all three starts here, loves it dry, and back to the 1100m is ideal.
*MAIN DANGERS: Newcastle 4YO mare 5. Longbottom didn’t finish it off resuming at Wyong, but has a smart second-up record and generally finds her best on the bigger tracks. Well travelled local 6YO 1. Another Sin has won two of his last three in handy open company, although sharp rise in weight from an awkward gate is a decent ask. Newcastle 7YO 6. Sausalito was a dominant winner of the BM 80 Krambach Sprint at Taree two runs back, and is drawn to get a nice trail. Keep safe Cessnock 7YO 2. Removal who can improve sharply third-up after being well outclassed in Listed company at Doomben.
Likely Tempo: Good to Strong
My Betting Attack: FRITZ’S FACTOR to Win
*RACE 5 @ 4.30pm KIA ORA MAIDEN PLATE (1000m) – Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:
Improving 3YO local filly 11. BAIYKA (Scott Singleton/Billy Cray; 55.5kg) gets her shot here back at home third-up from a good gate. Hit the line to only miss by a neck at Muswellbrook, and the winner then came out and won a handy CL1 at Tuncurry.
*MAIN DANGERS: Talented home track mare 9. Mother’s Day resumes off a lengthy break and down in weight. Only missed a place once in six starts since debuting more than a year ago, and could have easily won a couple with a bit more luck. Drawn to sit midfield well off the fence, and charge late. Expect Newcastle 3YO 4. Greenheart to figure at second start after doing his best work late at home on debut carrying 1.5kg more. Big watch on Gulgong 3YO 7. Winter Moon who resumes as a gelding off a near year-long spell, and narrowly won a recent trial; while local 3YO debutant 5. Street Power draws well, and debuts off a useful trial.
Likely Tempo: Good
My Betting Attack: BAIYKA to Win & Quinella: 9 & 11
*RACE 6 @ 5.10pm 57 DAYS UNTIL #INGLIS2021 CLASS 3 HCP (900m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
Don’t be concerned about the sharp rise in weight second-up for home track 4YO 3. REMLAPS GEM (Scott Singleton/Billy Cray; 59.5kg) whose two career wins have both come here. Held his ground okay beating all bar the winner resuming in stronger BM 76, and he’s the superior short-course galloper in this field.
*MAIN DANGERS: Newcastle 4YO 2. Daltoro has been rock solid in two runs back at BM 58 level, and should find the lead from a low draw. Local mare 7. Bit Of A Beauty resumes off a quiet trial for leading stable, and beat a smart sprinter first-up at Tamworth last prep; while Newcastle 4YO 5. Two Up resumes with no official trials, but swept home to beat a handy CL2 field last time at this track.
Likely Tempo: Good
My Betting Attack: REMLAPS GEM to Win
*RACE 7 @ 5.52pm EXCEEDANCE @ VINERY BM 58 HCP (1400m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
Despite drawing the outside gate, very keen on exciting 4YO local mare 3. MOTHER’S MERCY (Paul Messara/Mitchell Bell; 60.5kg) who returned off an 11-month absence with a powerful win here beating Leisa Louise who then bolted in a CL1 at Muswellbrook. Will likely be forced further back than normal from the draw, but she loves to get to the outside of horses and roll over them. Naturally by Redoute’s Choice, she’s out of the smart Group 3 and triple Listed winning mare Angel Of Mercy.
*MAIN DANGERS: Got plenty of time for progressive Wyong 5YO 5. Elusive Eagle who charged home to beat a good CL1 field at Port third-up, and has always raced like he will relish the seven furlongs on this big sweeping circuit. Capable Newcastle 5YO 2. Mr Piquet finds a nice race second-up after a solid return at Port behind two smart ones, and big weight off-set by 2kg claim; while local 4YO 1. Chewie Two draws well, and led for a long way in a handy BM 58 at Newcastle, but can be weak under pressure.
Likely Tempo: Reasonable to Solid
My Betting Attack: MOTHER’S MERCY to Win and Quinella: 3 & 5
